I have been busy. Busy with school, busy with lab, busy baking and cooking and taking pictures of food and then being disappointed with the picture or forgetting to upload them or failing to record recipes.

But mostly… I’ve been watching sports. I’m sorry. It sounds silly, but hey, the Detroit Tigers and the Michigan Wolverines are important parts of my life! Especially because I spend a lot of time watching those games with people who like to eat food. Hence, a long absence.

Anyway, you don’t care about that. You care about food, otherwise why the hell would you be here? So I am here to tell you a story about apples. An entire bushel of apples, as it turns out, meaning this is part one of a series of posts of things I’ve baked. But to start, we need to explore what apples mean during the fall in Michigan:

This is what every cider mill in Southeast Michigan looks like from mid September to early November. Except sometimes it's raining.

Sunday: Taco Kings & Cupcakes!

I don't use box mixes anymore. Because adding chocolate savings to a homemade recipe is so much better!

Today we watched the U of M/Indiana basketball game and ordered Taco King. Oh, yeah, and I made cupcakes. A LOT of cupcakes. So I made all these cupcakes to test out a mocha whipped-ganache frosting recipe. Well, it worked. My friends liked them, my boyfriend liked them, his little cousins liked them… overall a great success. I managed to take a picture of the cupcakes, pre-frosted. This was a rough week. I had a couple exams, a project, and a lot of non-school non-work volunteer duties to take care of. I’ll admit, dinners suffered slightly. But hey, we still ate!

Also, Sunday was memorable for both the quality and the quantity of eating, so at least we started off strong!

Sunday: Wings

Good thing the only stuff we ever store in our fridge is vegetables and leftovers! This took up pretty much all the extra space!

Today was not a day for regular eating. No. Today was a day that I did not have work OR class, AND a day that U of M played basketball, so we decided to have people over and make wings. In advance, so I had time to fill my fridge the night before with twenty pounds of marinating chicken in various sauces.

You can't fool me, tiny pie pan. I know a whole pie can still fit in you.

You can’t fool me, tiny pie pan. I know a whole pie can still fit in you.

What did you say, Meijer? A six-pack of “Large” pie tins? Sounds excellent, seeing as I have a terrible sense of size and have no idea that you actually meant “Child’s Medium” pie tins.

I feel as though this recipe doesn’t need much of an introduction. It’s tender, juicy, slightly sweet pork chops coated in something crunchy. I know, you’re already putting your coat on to go to the grocery store and pick up the necessary ingredients. But wait: Don’t you want to read the recipe first?

You don't want to read the recipe. You just want to test the idea that maybe pictures on computer screens taste like the actual object in the picture. I don't recommend that.
